Sumitomo Chemical Shows 50% Solar Transmittance

Sumitomo Chemical has developed an organic thin-film solar cell with excellent transparency and has been exhibited at the "People and Vehicle Technology Exhibition 2014" (May 21-23, 2014, Pacific Yokohama International Convention and Exhibition Center) to confirm this Potential demand for products in automotive windows and roofs.

Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd. displayed an organic thin-film solar cell with a light transmittance of approximately 50% and a size of 20 cm square. The conversion efficiency is about half of the R&D level efficiency of opaque organic thin film solar cells. Sumitomo Chemical announced in February 2012 that organic thin-film solar cells using materials developed by the company achieved a conversion efficiency of 10.6%.
