Today, Tianjin Municipal Government organized a product launch conference to formally announce the successful development of high-energy nickel-carbon supercapacitors in Tianjin. Zhang Gaoli, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of the Tianjin Municipal Party Committee, Huang Xingguo, deputy secretary of the Tianjin Municipal Party Committee, and mayor attended the meeting.
The high-energy nickel-carbon super capacitor is a research team led by academician Zhou Guotai of the Chinese Academy of Engineering adopting a comprehensive balance of performance design ideas, and proposes an “inside-parallel†super capacitor structure scheme, in which the activated carbon material is introduced into the negative electrode of a nickel-metal hydride battery, ie, one electrode is used. The electrode is an activated carbon electrode, and the other electrode is a capacitor electrode material or a battery electrode, which combines an ordinary super capacitor with a battery.
This capacitor combines the excellent performance of general supercapacitors and batteries, and its technological advancement:
The first is higher capacity. The volumetric and weight ratio capacity is 10 times that of current automotive supercapacitors, and is close to two-thirds of the specific energy of lithium-ion power batteries.
The second is long cycle life. The product has a standard detection life of more than 50,000 times, the actual use of charge and discharge cycles has reached 15,000 times, the life of super capacitors can reach 25-100 times of the battery.
The third is high charge and discharge efficiency. It can reach more than 95% of its rated capacity after charging for 10 minutes. It has high current discharge capability and high energy conversion efficiency.
The fourth is safety and environmental protection. The product has a good high and low temperature performance and environmental adaptability, the use of temperature range can be -40 °C to 70 °C, even if overcharge or short circuit will not lead to fatal danger, safe and reliable use. The product achieved zero emissions.
The fifth is cost-effective. The full life cost for a pure electric vehicle is only one-third that of a lithium-ion battery. Its integrated operating costs for electric vehicles are much lower than those for batteries. A set of power supplies can be used continuously by 4 vehicles, which reduces the overall cost of lithium-ion batteries by more than 80%.
Experts identified by Tianjin Science and Technology Commission have achieved international advanced technology and leading domestic standards.
Currently, the academician Zhou Guotai’s team has developed a high-energy nickel-carbon super capacitor pure electric bus in cooperation with the CSR Group, and developed a C-stage platform high-energy nickel-carbon supercapacitor sedan in cooperation with Tianjin FAW Xiali Company and Tianjin Songzheng Electric Vehicle Co., Ltd. The product has also been put on trials in the production of pure electric minibuses, electric bicycles and portable red light irradiators. (Reporter Feng Guojun)
