According to foreign media reports, researchers at Purdue University have developed a new electric vehicle technology that combines battery and hydrogen energy. The energy density is very high, and only need to quickly replenish the battery to allow passenger cars. The cruising range is over 5,000 kilometers.
The technology uses a patented "liquid flow" system that generates electricity from a single cell fluid, powers an electric car, and produces hydrogen energy as needed. Currently, Purdue University in Indianapolis is using a golf cart to test the technology.
The system is similar to last year's sensational Scottish "flow battery" technology, although the system used a membrane to pass ions through two separate battery "containers", while the new system had no film and only one battery "container".
John Cushman, Distinguished Professor of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences at Purdue University and a professor of mathematics, says that single-cell fluid systems can achieve greater energy density, and that it can provide electric vehicles with lighter, longer-life batteries. The flow battery can be a strong competitor for electric vehicle power.
In addition, the hydrogen produced by this new technology can be stored at a lower pressure. Currently, the system has been tested on scooters and golf carts, and based on the technology is further developed, researchers believe that it can make electric vehicles mileage of 3,000 to 3,600 miles (about 4,800 to 5,800 kilometers).
The only requirement is that the driver needs to stop and replace the battery when driving to 480 km or so. Just like refueling the car, there is no need to charge the lithium-ion battery electric car for 45 minutes. The researchers said that it is similar to the process of parking fuel. In fact, the system may be transformed into an existing gas station dosing device. Once the car is about 5,000 kilometers away, the battery fluid needs to be replaced when the battery anode is exhausted. The replacement of the battery fluid is the same as the time for oil change, and the cost is approximately US$65 (approximately RMB 440.3).
